This blog is the result of a very sophisticated mathematical formula that makes the Quadratic Equation look like the instructions on a package of Easy Mac.
Youth Ministry + Ninjas = Explosion of Awesome
Mind. Blown. Let’s break it down a bit more:
Youth Ministry. God’s call on the lives of women and men to make disciples of young people. But the calling is not just for those who get paid (even if it doesn’t seem like very much) or those who volunteer. Youth ministry is the calling of parents, leaders, and the entire Church to raise young people up into Christ. (Mt 28:18-20; Eph 4:11-16)
Ninjas. Because ministry is warfare. “The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil” (1 Jn 3:8b ESV). Jesus is our conquering hero and we are his ambassadors. The battle belongs to Jesus; he won the war 2000 years ago. Yet there are still little battles to be fought. That is why the Bible calls us to fight the good fight of faith! Jesus is our sensei, our guru, but more importantly our Lord, and we are his disciples. (2 Cor 5:20; 1 Sam 17:47; 1 Tim 6:12)
Explosion of Awesome. Because when we allow the Holy Spirit to use us for his plan, he’ll show us just how powerful and mighty he is. Like sitting out on your porch while a thunderstorm rolls in. The kind of awesomeness that’s almost scary; it gives you goosebumps just to think about it. We get to sit in the front row watching God, with his grace and love, turn back even the most corrupt hearts.
About the Author
Hi, I’m Nick, and I’m a full-time youth worker for a congregation in San Antonio, TX. You can read more about my story here. I love what I do and I wouldn’t trade it for anything else in the world. Except for maybe actually being a real life ninja. But you know, one of those good ninjas that tells you about Jesus before chopping you in the throat.
My hope with this blog is to provide youth ministry resources, like lesson plans, games, activities, event ideas, theme nights, and things like that. I also want to provide some tools for being totally awesome in things like fundraising, office work, administration, volunteer recruiting, and the less glamorous but totally necessary parts of our jobs. Along with that, I hope to create a community of youth workers who can support and encourage one another by sharing the knowledge that they’ve learned.
I don’t claim to have all the answers. If anything, I’m simply asking you to sit with me at Jesus’ feet while he tells us more about who he is and what he’s got in store for the students and families we’re reaching.
